Two of Holland’s major literary publishers, De Bezige Bij and Lebowski Publishers joined forces to bring the complete works of Jan Arends – notorious Dutch poet, writer, mental patient and butler – back to the public. Literary critic Rudy Kousbroek wrote about one of his stories :‘A Nobelprize for an oeuvre of this standard would not be overdone.’ When Jan Arends committed suicide in 1974, he left behind a small but powerful oeuvre.
